Federal Way soldier dies in Iraq

Army Spc. Erin McLyman, of Federal Way, died in Iraq, military officials have confirmed.

A Federal Way soldier has died in Iraq, the Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations Center confirmed.

The military organization said Army Spc. Erin McLyman died while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom, but no other details of her death were immediately available.

McLyman's body arrived Monday at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.

"She had a great personality — always friendly, full of energy," said Michael Shelley, who said he knew McLyman as a neighbor at their Federal Way apartment complex until her deployment a year ago.

As neighbors, they'd see each other at cookouts when the weather was decent. She and her husband, he said, enjoyed life there with their dog and cat.

"She's sorely missed," Shelley said.

Information from The Associated Press was included in this report.
