Third-ranked Granger outlasts Vashon Island

YAKIMA, Wash. —

Samantha Zapien scored 13 points to lead third-ranked Granger past Vashon Island 45-32 on Wednesday in the first round of the Class 1A girls state tournament.

Ashlee Reddout chipped in nine points for the Spartans (22-1), who put the game out of reach with a 19-9 in the second quarter. Reddout scored four during that charge.

The Spartans outrebounded Vashon Island 40-31. Reddout grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Granger shot 33 percent (14 of 43) in the contest, while the Pirates (18-8) converted only 24 percent (12 of 50) and were 5 of 27 from 3-point range.
