A young man was taken into custody Wednesday night after a hit-and-run accident that injured two people, one seriously, in the 1800 block of Southwest 356th Street in Federal Way.

The most seriously injured victim, a young man in his late teens, was airlifted by helicopter to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Federal Way Police spokesman Raymond Bunk said. The other victim, a 50-year-old man, was transported by ambulance to Harborview with non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident occurred minutes before 7 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Southwest 356th Street. Bunk said the initial investigation indicated that the victims were pedestrians.

The young man taken into custody suffered minor injuries, Bunk said. He was believed to be in his late teens or early 20s. His identity was not disclosed.

Investigating officers were initially unsure if alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident.
