Woodinville woman's dog wins honors at Westminster

A dog belonging to a Woodinville woman placed second in the Sporting category at the 134th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Tuesday.

Stacy J. Duncan, 34, and her 3-year-old male Irish Water Spaniel, Keegan, beat 26 other dogs and finished second behind a 5-year-old female Brittany spaniel, according to the show's Web site.

Duncan and her sister, Terry Martin, have been showing dogs their entire lives, Martin said.

"I watched it live and was absolutely ecstatic," Martin said. "We lost our father last October, and he started showing dogs when he was 15 and Westminster Dog Show is like the show of the year."

Duncan could not be reached in New York Tuesday night.

It's the second time Duncan has done well at the Westminster show. In 1993, she placed 1st in the junior showmanship category.

The show, held annually in New York City, is recognized as the premier dog competition in the country.

It finished Tuesday evening, with Sadie, a Scottish terrier who was ranked No. 1 in the country coming into the event, winning Best in Show.
