Suspect in Long Beach WSP shooting goes to court

The man accused of shooting a Washington State Patrol trooper in Long Beach is the husband of a woman whose car was being towed after a drunken driving stop.

The Associated Press

LONG BEACH, Wash. —

The man accused of shooting a Washington State Patrol trooper in Long Beach is the husband of a woman whose car was being towed after a drunken driving stop.

Trooper Krista Hedstrom confirmed the connection Tuesday and said detectives did not disclose the relationship earlier.

The State Patrol says Martin A. Jones arrived on the scene early Saturday as Trooper Scott Johnson was processing the car for towing and shot him in the back of the head.

The 45-year-old Seaview man was arrested Monday and is making an initial court appearance Tuesday in South Bend on possible assault and attempted murder charges.

Johnson was released Monday from a Portland hospital and still has bullet fragments in his head.
