DNA evidence leads to murder charge in Yakima

New DNA evidence has led to the arrest of Montana man in the fatal shooting of his common-law wife last July on I-82 near Selah.

YAKIMA, Wash. —

New DNA evidence has led to the arrest of Montana man in the fatal shooting of his common-law wife last July on I-82 near Selah.

At the time, Stephen Harwood said they were shot and robbed by a hitchhiker who ran off. Sheryl Huntley was shot in the head and died at a hospital. Harwood had a wounded hand.

Harwood and Huntley lived at Thompson Falls, Mont., Huntley had relatives in Yakima.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports recent DNA test results led to the arrest of Harwood on Monday in Butte, Mont. He'll be returned to Yakima for trial.
