Police arrested a 17-year-old boy Friday night after he drove a car through the doors of Shorecrest High School, cruised 75 yards down a hallway and crashed into a security office.

The incident happened around 10 p.m., said Sgt. John Urquhart, spokesman for the King County Sheriff's Office. Two school employees who were working late heard the crash. No injuries were reported.

Police couldn't find the driver at first. They then spoke to the boy's parents, the registered owners of the car, and found the teenager about an hour and a half later on school property, Urquhart said.

The boy was arrested, interviewed and taken to Harborview Medical Center "for a mental evaluation," Urquhart said.

"He did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol," Urquhart said.

The boy lives in Lake Forest Park and is a student at Shorecrest. News of the incident spread quickly on Facebook on Saturday morning, along with photos of the 2002 Subaru Outback that showed broken walls resting atop the white car. Some students voiced disbelief, others annoyance that someone would crash through their school.

Then there was discussion about the most pressing question — would there be class Monday?

There will, said Shoreline Schools spokesman Craig Degginger.

The car did no structural damage to the building, he said.

Police said the car had to be pushed back down the hallway and out of the school, to be picked up by the boy's parents later.
