Local bus-rapid transit getting $21 million infusion

West Seattle's future bus-rapid-transit line will receive $21 million in new funding from the Federal Transit Administration, covering three-fourths of the project cost for buses, stations and road-lane revisions, according to a federal list released Monday.

West Seattle's future bus-rapid-transit line will receive $21 million in new funding from the Federal Transit Administration, covering three-fourths of the project cost for buses, stations and road-lane revisions, said a federal list released Monday.

The service to downtown will begin in two years, replacing or complementing slower routes by offering more frequent trips on roomier red-and-mustard colored buses, via Highway 99.

King County Metro Transit will open similar RapidRide bus lines this year from SeaTac to Federal Way, next year in the Bellevue-Overlake area, in 2012 from Ballard to downtown Seattle, and the year after for Aurora Avenue North and for the Burien-Southcenter-Renton corridor.
