A pedestrian who was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near the Spokane Street exit Saturday night was struck by a vehicle and killed, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Trooper Christina Martin said the man was across from the Tully's building at 9:15 p.m. when he was struck by a car. He died at the scene. The man was not carrying identification and his age had yet to be determined. Martin said troopers assumed the man might have been a transient, but that had not been confirmed.

Motorists reported delays of up to 45 minutes as three lanes of the highway were closed to traffic. The highway was fully reopened at about 11 p.m.
