Local musicians reject contract proposal
Musicians with the Seattle Symphony and Opera Players Organization union Sunday unanimously voted down a contract proposed by Symphony management.
Musicians with the Seattle Symphony and Opera Players Organization union Sunday unanimously voted down a contract proposed by Symphony management.
The proposed contract would have been for five years and called for a 10 percent wage cut, to below 2005 levels.
Negotiations between the Symphony and the union have been ongoing for about eight months, but the two sides are still far apart. The current contract expired at the end of last year.
The union, which earlier voted to authorize a strike if an agreement couldn't be reached, said no strike was imminent. Both union and management said they hope to continue talks.
The Symphony faces a $1.2 million deficit and $4 million accumulated debt.
