Fraud suspect spins tale of Obama overthrow plot

If Ronnie Lee Owen is telling the truth, he can save President Barack Obama from a racist plot and stop a Mormon revolution, if police would let him out of jail.

JACKSON, Miss. —

If Ronnie Lee Owen is telling the truth, he can save President Barack Obama from a racist plot and stop a Mormon revolution, if police would let him out of jail.

Authorities haven't freed him. He goes on trial next week on federal fraud charges.

The 41-year-old was arrested in March 2009 after a traffic stop in Biloxi, Miss.

According to documents obtained by The Associated Press before they were ordered sealed by a federal judge in Gulfport, Owen offered to help stop a plot against Obama by a white supremacist he called Billy Ray. He also offered to help infiltrate an extremist Mormon group to thwart an uprising.

Authorities have said little about whether Owen was taken seriously. Secret Service agent Allen Bryant says only that the open investigation is a fraud case.
