Longview council approves 10 pct. water rate hike

The Associated Press
The Longview council has approved a 10 percent rate hike for water service.
City officials say the increase is necessary to pay for a future groundwater treatment plant at the Mint Farm Industrial Park.
According to consultants' latest estimates, the water plant would cost $38.7 million, which is $2 million more than projected last summer.
January's 10 percent water rate increase will boost the average residential customer's bill by $2.70 a month. On Dec. 10, the council shot down a 13 percent water rate increase by a 4-3 vote.
