Teen tried to save stillborn baby at Medford, Ore., hotel

Authorities say a teenager who delivered a stillborn girl in August tried to save it before she put it in a garbage bin at a Medford hotel.

Authorities say a teenager who delivered a stillborn girl in August tried to save it before she put it in a garbage bin at a Medford hotel.

Prosecutors say 19-year-old Denise Flanary of Medford pleaded guilty this month to felony abuse of a corpse. In a plea bargain, a charge of concealing the birth was dropped.

She was sentenced to two years of probation and 80 hours of community service.

Prosecutors say she initially denied she was the mother but later cooperated with investigators.

They say an autopsy and polygraph test supported her story that she used mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the infant, but it was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around its neck and was already dead.
