2 teens injured, one critically, in accident near Arlington

Two Snohomish County teens were injured, one critically, in an vehicle accident near Arlington Tuesday morning.

Two Snohomish County teens were injured Tuesday morning when their vehicles collided on an unincorporated county road near Arlington.

According to a Snohomish County Sheriff's Office report, a 17-year-old driving a Toyota was attempting to pass a Jeep, heading in the same direction, in a no-passing zone when the vehicles collided on Burn Road about 7 a.m. The Jeep then struck a nearby tree.

A 16-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the Jeep, was critically injured. Snohomish County Sheriff's spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said the girl was airlifted to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center. The driver of the Jeep, also 17, suffered minor injuries and was treated at an area hospital.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured, Hover said.

Investigators said excessive speed and improper passing may have been factors in the accident.
