One person is in custody after two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle and hospitalized in separate incidents along Stadium Way on Washington State University's Pullman, Wash., campus.
WSU officials say the two pedestrians suffered numerous injuries, but they did not appear to be life-threatening. The Moscow-Pullman Daily News said one of the victims is a WSU student.
WSU Police Chief Bill Gardner said the vehicle was reported driving erratically in the westbound lanes of State Route 270 between Moscow, Idaho, and Pullman shortly before entering the campus.
The driver turned north on Stadium Way at about 7:30 a.m. Monday, and struck the first person in a crosswalk near Gannon and Goldsworthy dorms. Gardner says the car continued, hitting the center median before striking a pedestrian on a sidewalk near Wegner Hall.
The vehicle stopped and the driver fled before being apprehended by campus police in the vicinity of McCoy Hall, Gardner said.
WSU police Lt. Steve Hansen identified the driver as 31-year-old Daniel A. Noble of Moscow. Hansen said officers had to use a Taser to subdue him. Pullman police Cmdr. Chris Tennant said Noble was transported to Pullman Regional Hospital for a physical and mental evaluation.
The names of the injured were not released.
