Light-rail trains to run less often tonight
Sound Transit trains will run 20 to 25 minutes apart tonight, instead of the usual 10- to 15-minute frequency, while crews repair a broken weld in the Tukwila segment of the rail line.
Seattle Times transportation reporter
Sound Transit trains will run 20 to 25 minutes apart tonight, instead of the usual 10- to 15-minute frequency, while crews repair a broken weld in the Tukwila segment of the rail line, spokesman Bruce Gray said.
The delays will begin at 7 p.m. and continue until closing, he said.
Gray said the break, on the Duwamish River Bridge at north Tukwila, was discovered many weeks ago and is unrelated to two other problems in the area: noise near the bridge, and the occasional shuddering when trains move at high speed on elevated tracks to the south, on the new Seattle-Tukwila line that opened in July.
Service to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport will begin Dec. 19.
Trains are normally scheduled every 7 ½ minutes at peak times, every 10 minutes from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., and every 15 minutes from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
