Fort Lewis soldier dies in Afghanistan blast
A soldier assigned to the 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, at Fort Lewis was killed Tuesday in a bomb explosion in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
A soldier assigned to the 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, at Fort Lewis was killed Tuesday in a bomb explosion in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense said Spc. Joseph M. Lewis, 26, of Terrell, Texas, died after his vehicle was attacked by enemy forces.
According to military records, Lewis, who enlisted in the Army in June 2005, had been stationed at Fort Lewis since February 2007. He was assigned to the 8th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment.
He completed basic training at Fort Knox, Ky., and had served in 12 months in South Korea before being assigned to Fort Lewis. His brigade deployed to Iraq four months ago.
