Man cutting tree is killed when it falls on him

A 24-year-old Sedro-Woolley man was killed this afternoon when a tree he was chopping down fell on him in unincorporated Stanwood.

A 24-year-old Sedro-Woolley man was killed this afternoon when a tree he was chopping down fell on him in unincorporated Stanwood.

The man, reportedly employed as a private contractor with a logging and tree service company, was doing storm cleanup work in a heavily wooded area on private property in the 7500 block of Silvana Terrace Road.

The man was using a chain saw to bring down an unstable tree that had fallen and was partially suspended by the branches of nearby trees when a large section of that tree fell on him shortly before 2 p.m. He died at the scene.

Another man working with him was not injured.

Rebecca Hover, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, said deputies determined the death was the result of an accident.
