The Associated Press
Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy vetoed the county council decision to eliminate a superior court judge position.
McCarthy said Monday the council did not have the authority to eliminate the job.
The News Tribune of Tacoma reports the council could vote to overturn the veto. The council vote Nov. 3 to eliminate the judgeship was 7-0. The council would need five votes to overturn a veto. Council members have 30 days to act.
The council voted to cut the position after the resignation of Judge Michael Hecht following his conviction for patronizing a prostitute.
