Man dies in Seattle fire started by smoker

One man was killed and another injured in a fire that the Seattle Fire Department says was started by smoking in bed.

One man was killed and another injured in a fire early this morning that the Seattle Fire Department says was started by smoking in bed.

The fire was reported about 2:30 a.m. in an older house that had been converted to apartments.

Spokeswoman Dana Vander Houwen says firefighters found the critically injured man in the room where the fire started. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where a spokeswoman says he died.

The second man was able to make it out of the house on his own and was taken to Harborview with non-life threatening injuries.

Damage is estimated at $20,000 to the three-story house in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
