A man sought by police in the Halloween killing of a Seattle police officer has been upgraded to serious condition after he was shot by detectives investigating the case.
Harborview Medical Center spokeswoman Susan Gregg-Hanson says Saturday morning the man in is the intensive care unit at the hospital following surgery Friday night. He arrived at the hospital in critical condition.
The shooting occurred as Seattle Police detectives pursued a tip at an apartment complex in the south Seattle suburb of Tukwila on Friday, Tukwila police spokesman Mike Murphy said. The man fled when approached by detectives outside the apartment building, Murphy said, but he was quickly boxed in. Three detectives opened fire when the man drew a handgun.
The shooting happened just as the memorial service for Officer Timothy Brenton had finished at Seattle's KeyArena.
