Ore. man accused of pouring bleach on cat

PORTLAND — Court documents say a 32-year-old Portland man is accused of pouring bleach on his girlfriend's cat, then punching the woman in the face when she asked him where the cat was.

The woman later found the cat, with blood on its face and mouth, meowing in a kitchen cabinet.

A police officer rushed the cat to an emergency animal hospital, where it was treated and later released.

Daniel Warren Clark has pleaded not guilty to fourth-degree assault, harassment and second-degree animal abuse. He's held in the Multnomah County Detention Center.

The woman told police she was trying to help fix her boyfriend's computer on the night of Oct. 24 but that angered him, leading to a wider confrontation.

According to court papers, the girlfriend left the house and, when she returned, noticed two of her cats and her dog appeared scared while a third cat was missing. She told police her boyfriend punched her when she asked where the missing cat was.

The Oregonian reports that Clark is on post-prison supervision stemming from 1996 convictions for attempted first-degree rape and first-degree assault of an ex-girlfriend.
