Wash. election features 3 statehouse contests
Eastern Washington voters are choosing three state House members in special elections to replace departed incumbents.

Eastern Washington voters are choosing three state House members in special elections to replace departed incumbents.
The seats were vacated before the previous occupant's term expired - two by deaths, and one by a promotion.
The top contest is in the 16th District, which includes the cities of Pasco and Walla Walla. Republicans are targeting that seat, because it's held by the Legislature's only Democrat from rural Eastern Washington.
There's also a race in the 9th District, which includes Pullman and Cheney. Two Republicans are competing for that spot.
The final contest is in the 15th District, which includes Sunnyside and Goldendale. It's a formality, since the appointed incumbent faces no active opponent.
