The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office declined late Monday to identify an armed intruder shot and killed by a Lake Stevens police officer on Sunday evening.
Authorities also have not yet released the officer's name.
Snohomish County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a home in the 10400 block of 25th Street Southeast, in unincorporated Snohomish County near Lake Stevens, after reports of a domestic disturbance just before 8 p.m. Sunday, said Sgt. Robert Goetz, spokesman for the Snohomish Multi-Agency Response Team. Two Lake Stevens police officers also were sent because they were close by, Goetz said.
"The call originally came in as a disturbance but was upgraded to indicate that a weapon may be involved," Goetz said. Authorities were told a man was trying to force his way through the home's front door, he said.
A Lake Stevens officer was the first to arrive. Shots were fired, and a man was killed. No one else was injured, Goetz said.
Detectives said officers entered the home before shots were fired. The man fatally shot was armed with a handgun, and a second handgun also was found at the scene, Goetz said.
Authorities declined to identify the officer who, according to Goetz, is 23, with nearly three years of experience on the force.
Goetz said Multi-Agency Response Team detectives were at the scene until midmorning Monday for a follow-up investigation.
"Detectives have confirmed that there is evidence at the scene that indicates that forced entry was made into the home," he said.
