VANCOUVER, Wash. —

The historical and cultural effects of dams around the world, including the Columbia River, will be the subject of a Nov. 7 conference at Washington State University Vancouver.

Keynote speaker William Lang, history professor at Portland State University, says the inundation of Celilo Falls by The Dalles Dam is an example of the environmental and human consequences of impounding rivers.

The Vancouver Columbian reports the conference is free and open to the public.
