King County deputy is cited for illegal fires

A King County sheriff's deputy who was acquitted in a federal civil-rights case last year has been cited for allegedly building two illegal campfires in an Eastern Washington forest.

A King County sheriff's deputy who was acquitted in a federal civil-rights case last year has been cited for allegedly building two illegal campfires in an Eastern Washington forest.

According to sheriff's spokesman Sgt. John Urquhart, Deputy Brian Bonnar was placed on paid administrative leave two weeks after federal authorities contacted the Sheriff's Office with information about the citations issued to Bonnar by a U.S. Forest Service ranger.

Last year, Bonnar escaped criminal conviction on charges of lying to a grand jury and violating the civil rights of a woman arrested in 2005, but did not escape a lecture from U.S. District Judge Thomas Zilly judge about his conduct.

Prosecutors alleged that Bonnar had surreptitiously kneed the woman, who resisted arrest, after she was handcuffed.
