BPA proposes power line for SW Wash. and NW Ore.

The Bonneville Power Administration wants to build a new high-voltage power line to serve increasing demand for electricity between Portland and Longview, Wash.

PORTLAND, Ore. —

The Bonneville Power Administration wants to build a new high-voltage power line to serve increasing demand for electricity between Portland and Longview, Wash.

The agency said Tuesday the existing system is nearly full due to growing industrial, commercial and residential demand in the region, and they need to enlarge capacity to avoid blackouts.

The proposal shows three different routes between a new substation north of Longview, Wash., into Vancouver, Wash., and out to Troutdale. All three are east of Interstate 5.

The agency has launched an environmental impact statement, and expects to make a decision on building a new line, and what route to use, by 2012.
