Wyo. governor talks energy with Western lawmakers
JACKSON, Wyo. - Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal warned Western state lawmakers gathered in Jackson for an energy symposium that competition among the states is a natural impediment to interstate cooperation.

JACKSON, Wyo. - Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal warned Western state lawmakers gathered in Jackson for an energy symposium that competition among the states is a natural impediment to interstate cooperation.
Wyoming, the nation's leading coal-producing state, is sponsoring the three-day Western States Energy and Environment Symposium. It's billed as a chance for state lawmakers from across the West to brainstorm on energy issues.
Freudenthal said Monday that states compete against each other when it comes to jobs, federal funding and water issues.
He says states aren't likely to act selflessly to approve transmission lines or other energy projects that don't offer local benefits.
Many Western states have said the permitting and siting process for constructing new power lines should be streamlined.
