Gregoire, Nickels to sign tunnel agreement

SEATTLE —

Gov. Chris Gregoire's office says she'll sign a memorandum of agreement with Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels on the plan to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct with a tunnel.

The city council approved the agreement Monday that outlines how the city and state will work together to replace the elevated section of Highway 99 along the downtown waterfront.

The signing ceremony is set for 9:30 a.m. Saturday near near Qwest Field.
