KeyBank growing in Washington despite recession

KeyBank plans to open a branch in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood Thursday and one next week in the city's Queen Anne neighborhood.

The Associated Press

SEATTLE —

KeyBank plans to open a branch in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood Thursday and one next week in the city's Queen Anne neighborhood.

Earlier this year Key Bank opened a banking center in Renton and a headquarters for the northern part of the state in Bellingham.

The president of Key's Seattle-Cascades District, Rick Wirthlin, told The Daily Journal of Commerce that Washington is one of four markets the Cleveland bank is focusing on, along with Portland, Denver and the Hudson Valley in New York.

FDIC records show KeyBank has the second-largest market share in Washington, up from fifth in 2008.
