Everett home accused of neglecting penile cancer

EVERETT, Wash. —

A lawsuit has been filed against an Everett nursing home accused of neglecting a 97-year-old man and allowing his penis to slowly rot off.

The lawsuit filed this week says Everett Rehabilitation and Care Center failed to care for the man who had penile cancer and died in March of 2008 - two weeks after he was taken to an emergency room where doctors made the grim discovery.

An administrator told The Everett Herald she could not discuss the allegations because of federal privacy laws. Administrator Elizabeth Loyet said in a written statement that "quality care of our residents is our utmost priority."
