Eleven-year-old boy hit by truck on Highway 99

Seattle Times staff reporter

A 11-year-old autistic boy was critically injured Saturday afternoon when he was struck by a truck while trying to cross Highway 99.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Dan McDonald said the boy, identified as Devine Farrier, was reported missing from his SeaTac home by his aunt around 4:30 p.m. Family members, neighbors and sheriff's deputies began to search. Fifteen minutes later officials received reports of a boy walking on the shoulder of the northbound lanes of Highway 99 just north of Highway 599. Farrier then apparently attempted to cross the freeway, McDonald said, and was struck by a one-ton flatbed truck.

The driver, 46, was not injured and no charges are pending, McDonald said. Farrier was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
