Girl, 6, dies in crash after mom reaches for cellphone
The Grant County sheriff's office says a driver was reaching for her cellphone when she lost control of her car on a road near Royal City.
EPHRATA — The Grant County sheriff's office says a driver was reaching for her cell phone when she lost control of her car on a road near Royal City.
The car left the road and rolled down an embankment Monday, killing her 6-year-old daughter.
The sheriff's office says the girl was not properly restrained in a child seat. She was partially ejected and died at the scene.
The mother, 25-year-old Alma Rosa Avila-Juarez, and two sons, 2 and 3, were taken to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. They are expected to recover from their injuries.
The father works for a nearby farmer and went to the accident scene.
