YELM — A 15-year-old boy was seriously injured in an explosion that occurred as he and several other teenagers were apparently repackaging fireworks to make a larger device early Saturday.

Two or three other teens received less severe injuries and were treated at a local hospital, Thurston County Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Odegaard reported.

The most seriously injured victim was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center after the blast, which blew out two windows in a house in the 9400 block of Bridge Road just outside Yelm,

The explosion was reported at 4:23 a.m. Detectives are investigating.
