Bus rapid transit line to connect Seattle, Everett

Imagine a train on tires rolling down a highway. That's one way to think of bus rapid transit.

The Associated Press

EVERETT, Wash. —

Imagine a train on tires rolling down a highway. That's one way to think of bus rapid transit.

Community Transit says it will open the first such line in the state at the end of November, called Swift. Buses will run a 17-mile route on Highway 99 between the Everett Station and the Aurora Village Transit Center in Shoreline, north Seattle.

Community Transit says Swift buses will be more convenient. One will be coming by every 10 minutes on weekdays and 20 minutes on nights and weekends. There are 12 Swift stations in each direction.

Riders pay fares at the station and can board through three doors. Bike racks are on board, inside the rear door.

Swift buses can also extend a green light a few seconds to keep on schedule.
