Feds award $15 million to WSU
Washington State University has been awarded more than $15 million in federal grants for specialty crop research.

Washington State University has been awarded more than $15 million in federal grants for specialty crop research.
WSU President Elson Floyd announced the grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Wednesday. They include $3.8 million for stem-free sweet cherry research and $3.1 million for hop and mint crop research.
Other research areas include biodegradable mulches, fruit breeding, pests and pesticide applications.
USDA started a specialty crop research initiative in 2008 to improve research for fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits and horticulture and nursery crops.
