Lynnwood spending $80,000 on image makeover

The city of Lynnwood, once spoofed for big-haired women with blue eye shadow, is spending $80,000 for an image makeover.

LYNNWOOD, Wash. —

The city of Lynnwood, once spoofed for big-haired women with blue eye shadow, is spending $80,000 for an image makeover.

The Everett Herald reports the city has budgeted $80,000 and hired North Star Destination Strategies to come up with a brand. A new logo and tagline would be used in marketing campaigns.

Many people still remember the big hair and eye shadow depiction stuck on Lynnwood in the 1990s by the Seattle TV comedy show "Almost Live."

The city's economic development director, David Kleitsch, says in 2001 the city promoted Alderwood Mall with the tagline "quality, convenience and value." In 2004, the city came up with a "Start Here" campaign, encouraging visitors to use Lynnwood as a springboard to Puget Sound sightseeing.
