Homeless sleep outside Seattle mayor's home

SEATTLE —

A couple of dozen people camped outside Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels' West Seattle home overnight demanding that the city provide $50,000 more in free bus tickets for the homeless.

The demonstration Monday night was organized by the group SHARE, which says it ran out of money when bus fares went up.

The mayor's office called the camp-out a publicity stunt.

Director of Human Services Alan Painter says the city gave SHARE $310,000 this year - half of its budget - and is not cutting money for homeless services. The group is budgeted to receive the same amount next year.
