Light-rail accident injures 2 in vehicle

A vehicle making an left turn collided with a Sound Transit light-rail train in South Seattle around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

A vehicle making a left turn across Sound Transit light-rail tracks collided with a train in South Seattle around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Two people were taken to Harborview Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries after the vehicle they were in made a left onto South Kenyon Street from Martin Luther King Way South into the path of the train, according to Sound Transit spokesman Bruce Gray.

No one on the train was hurt, but light-rail service was disrupted for about a half-hour while the train was removed.

One of the train cars needs to be repaired, Gray said.

This is the third accident caused by drivers attempting left turns onto light-rail tracks, he said.

"There's no turn lane there, and it's clearly marked 'no left turn,' " Gray said.
