VANCOUVER, Wash. —

A bicycle rider described as a high school teacher has died in an apparent hit-and-run crash in Vancouver, Wash.

Police recovered a green, 1993 to 1995 dodge Intrepid following the crash, which occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Minnehaha neighborhood. The driver, described as a heavyset man in his 30s, was not immediately found.

Vancouver Police Sgt. Patrick Johns says a man was riding a 10-speed bicycle in a bicycle lane when he was hit, thrown onto the hood of the car and then tumbled to the sidewalk. He died at the scene.

A school official says the man taught at Hudson's Bay High School, but his name has not been released.

Nearby residents say speeding is a problem on Northeast St. Johns Road where the crash occurred.
