Light rail station connects to Sea-Tac Airport

SEATAC, Wash. —

Sound Transit says it's on track to open the light rail station at Sea-Tac Airport this December, allowing riders to travel from downtown Seattle to the airport in 36 minutes.

Working overnight Tuesday, crews installed a pedestrian bridge from the station to the terminal. The bridge is one of the last major pieces needed for a 2-mile extension of the light rail line from Tukwila.

The 14-mile line between Seattle and Tukwila opened in July - a five-year project that cost $2.3 billion. By 2016, a $1.9 billion tunnel will reach the University of Washington. And voters have approved spending $18 billion to extend light rail lines to suburban stops in Lynnwood, Federal Way and Redmond.
