Two Fort Lewis soldiers were killed Thursday in Iraq when their vehicle overturned, the Department of Defense said.

The soldiers, identified as Staff Sgt. Todd W. Selge, 25, of Burnsville, Minn., and Spc. Jordan M. Shay, 22, of Salisbury, Mass., were assigned to the Company A, 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, at Fort Lewis.

In a news release, the Fort Lewis public affairs office said the deaths were in Baqubah, Iraq. Their unit deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in early August.

According to unit records, Selge enlisted in the Army in July 2004. He was assigned to Fort Lewis in January 2005 after basic training at Fort Benning, Ga. This was his second tour of duty in Iraq.

During his military service, he received the Purple Heart, a National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign medal, and a Global War on Terrorism medal.

Shay enlisted in the military in November, 2006. He was assigned to Fort Lewis in May 2007, after basic training at Fort Benning. He, too, had served a previous tour in Iraq. During his military service, he received three Army Achievement medals, a National Defense Service medal, Iraq Campaign medal, and Global War on Terrorism medal.
