Skipping light-rail fare could cost $124
After five weeks of leniency, Sound Transit has begun issuing $124 citations to people who ride light-rail trains without paying.
After five weeks of leniency, Sound Transit has begun issuing $124 citations to people who ride light-rail trains without paying.
About 60 citations have been issued since Aug. 24 by transit police and unarmed security guards, said spokesman Bruce Gray.
Earlier, the agency used a softer touch, as people made their first trips on the new line between Tukwila to Westlake Center. Transit personnel issued 400 written warnings and handed out 3,000 fare information cards, Gray said.
Sound Transit uses a "proof of payment" method, in which riders are asked at random to show a ticket or pass.
