2nd victim ID'd in fatal big-rig plunge off highway bridge
Washington State Patrol troopers have identified a 60-year-old man believed to have been the second person in the cab of a tractor-trailer rig that crashed earlier this week on a Columbia River bridge near Chelan Falls. He is Peter Wooley of Olympia.
WENATCHEE — Washington State Patrol troopers have identified a 60-year-old man believed to have been the second person in the cab of a tractor-trailer rig that crashed earlier this week on a Columbia River bridge near Chelan Falls.
He is Peter Wooley of Olympia. Wooley has not been located since the Monday crash, which killed the rig's driver, 48-year-old Kathleen Walker of Olympia. Troopers say Walker and Wooley lived together in Olympia, according to officials with Jim Palmer Trucking, the Missoula, Mont.-based company that employed them.
A Washington Transportation Department official says the Highway 97 bridge known as the Beebe Bridge may be closed as long as two weeks for repairs.
DOT's Dave Bierschbach says the roadway across the bridge has sagged about four inches near the site of the accident, which tore off a vertical hanger and damaged two beams.
The tractor cab broke free in the crash and plunged into the river. The trailer broke apart on the bridge, scattering its load of apple boxes.
