Lake Stevens teachers, district reach tentative agreement

Teachers in Lake Stevens have reached a tentative contract with the school district there, and in Sedro-Woolley, teachers have approved a new contract, ending their strike.

The Lake Stevens School District and its teachers have reached a tentative contract accord, with a proposed school start date of Sept. 9.

Kelly Snow, president of the Lake Stevens Education Association, said the agreement will be presented to Lake Stevens teachers for a vote this morning at a meeting at Lake Stevens High School.

Elsewhere, teachers in Sedro-Woolley have voted in favor of a contract deal that ends their strike. Classes in Sedro-Woolley will begin today, one day late.

Rich Wood, spokesman for the Washington Education Association, said Bellingham teachers are still without a contract as are teachers in 50 to 60 districts statewide.

Earlier this week, teachers in Seattle, Everett and Mount Vernon OK'd contract agreements, Wood said.
