Three babies were taken to area hospitals Monday afternoon after being injured when a midsize sport-utility vehicle ran into a day-care center across from Microsoft's main complex in Redmond.
The youngsters were in an infant room for babies 3 to 9 months old in the Childtime Children's Center shortly after 4 p.m. when a 2006 Toyota RAV-4 crashed through the building wall, said Capt. Rob Torrey, spokesman for the Redmond Fire Department.
The three infants were taken to hospitals as a precaution, Redmond police Lt. Charlie Gorman said in a press release. None of them appeared to be seriously injured, he said.
Two of the unidentified youngsters were taken to Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue for treatment, Torrey said. One was taken to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center.
The day-care center, which Torrey said is private, is in the middle of the Archstone at Redmond Campus apartment complex in the 4300 block of 156th Avenue Northeast.
"We don't know what happened, or why," Torrey said.
The center usually cares for 45 to 50 youngsters daily, Torrey said. Seven babies and some child-care workers were in the infant room when the vehicle came through the wall.
A child-care employee also was checked by medics at the scene but was not taken to a hospital.
Torrey said at least half the vehicle entered the building. He said it had been in the day-care center's parking lot. The driver, a 45-year-old North Bend woman, was not injured, he said. Her identity was not disclosed.
