Seattle homicide detectives have arrested a man and a woman in connection with the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man Thursday in Seattle's Mount Baker neighborhood.
The 29-year-old male suspect is believed to have been the shooter, said police spokeswoman Renee Witt. Both the man and the female suspect, age 20, were arrested around 7 p.m. Thursday somewhere in South Seattle, Witt said, explaining that detectives haven't released many details of their investigation.
Both suspects were booked into King County Jail just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday, jail records show.
According to the King County Medical Examiner's Office, the victim, Melvin Charles Evans, died from a gunshot wound to the torso.
Several people called 911 to report hearing four to six gunshots around 3 a.m. Thursday, near Rainier Avenue South and South Byron Street, after a loud argument between the victim and at least one of the suspects, Witt said.
After he was shot, the victim ran into an alley and collapsed. He later died at Harborview Medical Center.
The male suspect was seen getting into a car that sped northbound on Rainier Avenue South, Witt said. The female suspect was also in the vehicle, but it's unclear whether she was present during the shooting, she said.
Detectives haven't ruled out the possibility that the shooting was gang-related but do not believe it was random, Witt said.
Though both suspects have convictions for misdemeanor crimes, neither has previously been convicted of a violent felony, court records show.
