An inmate who died Thursday morning in the King County Jail in downtown Seattle died from natural causes, according the King County Medical Examiner's Office. Scott D. Parrish, 44, suffered from heart disease, the Medical Examiner's Office said. According to jail records, Parish was booked into the jail on Tuesday and was being held on $100,000 bail for failure to appear on a domestic violence assault charge.
Because it was a death in custody, state law required the medical examiner to conduct an autopsy.
Maj. William Hayes of the county's Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention said his department is working with Public Health — Seattle & King County to conduct an investigation, which is part of the standard review process for jail deaths.
Standard policy also requires the Seattle Police Department to conduct an independent investigation, said police spokesman Jeff Kappel.
