A huge part of the Seattle Mariners' bright future is at stake.
Seattle is trying to reach a contract agreement with No. 2 overall pick Dustin Ackley before a Monday night league deadline takes effect.
If there's no deal, the star hitter from the University of North Carolina goes away, into the 2010 draft. And the Mariners lose a centerpiece to their long-term rebuilding plan.
The team has scheduled a 9:15 p.m. PDT teleconference with general manager Jack Zduriencik.
