Drive-by shooting outside Youth Service Center in Seattle

Seattle Police are investigating a shooting this morning in the parking lot the Youth Service Center on 12th Avenue in Seattle.

Seattle Police are looking for two or three suspects in connection with this morning's drive-by shooting in the parking lot of the King County Youth Service Center on 12th Avenue in Seattle.

According to police, the victim was shot in the hip outside the service center and the suspects fled in a vehicle, possibly a white Chevrolet. Police said there may be two or three suspects.

The victim is a young man believed to be in his teens, possibly 17 or 18 years old, according to police. They described his wound as non-life-threatening. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center.

Witness Thomas McCray, who lives across 12th Avenue from the Youth Service Center, said he saw a group of about a dozen teens gathered around a car in the parking lot just before the shooting. A white car drove up and shots were fired at the group from the occupants of the car, he said.

The car then sped off on 12th Avenue, McCray said.

Sheridan Melton said he was seated in his car near the parking lot when he heard about five gunshots and then saw two young men running from the lot.

Witnesses said a red bandanna was thrown from the car immediately after the shooting.

The Youth Service Center houses juvenile court and the juvenile detention center. Police are unsure of any connection between the center and the victim and suspects.

The center was locked down for about 45 minutes after the shooting, but has since reopened.

The Police Department's gang unit is investigating.
